Hi, I am Peggy Unger the Patient Advocate at Coastal
Fertility Medical Center. Because infertility can often cause patients to feel
overwhelmed, many patients benefit from an advocate who can answer their questions
and provide emotional support for them in a reasonably objective, but caring
way. My role as a patient advocate is to act as an intermediary offering empathy,
explanation, and encouragement during and after treatment. Talking with someone
who understands what you are going through can have a positive effect on the
infertility treatment, and is encouraged. It is the advocate’s role to
view aspects of the practice from the patient’s, as well as the physician’s
perspective, in an attempt to improve areas as needed. The infertility advocate
is a liaison between the patient, physician, embryologist, or other staff members,
and is not a substitute for a psychologist or social worker. I am always happy
to refer my patients to a therapist or support group if necessary.
I also interact with patients who are having difficult issues with billing,
collections, and/or insurance. I will maintain close contact with you until
your problem is resolved. I will educate patients on how to make their dealings
with administrative, financial, and clinical aspects more efficient for all
involved.
It is important to all of us at Coastal Fertility Medical Center that we do
the very best we can to provide comprehensive quality medical care to our patients
with the utmost compassion. I am looking forward to meeting you at your new-patient
orientation. Just remember that I am here to ensure that you have a positive
experience with our clinic. Please feel free to contact me directly at (949)
