IRVINE, Calif, January 19, 2004 – Lawrence B. Werlin of Coastal Fertility Medical Center was recently named one of “Orange County’s Best Doctors” in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. The prestigious annual award is presented by the Best Doctors In America and honors top physicians in their fields as determined by an independent peer-review evaluation.

Only 30,000 doctors in the United States (about 4 percent of all U.S. doctors) are selected as outstanding doctors. The database covers more 40 medical specialties and is operated by Best Doctors Inc. of Aiken, South Carolina. As reported in Orange Coast Magazine, Werlin is one of only a handful of doctors in Orange County worthy of the impressive award. For his contributions to reproductive medicine, Werlin has been the recipient of the award in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000.

Most recently, Werlin garnered national acclaim for his role as the principal investigator and leading researcher in the GENESIS Network’s for Reproductive Health’s breakthrough fertility study. The GENESIS study is the first prospective, randomized study to analyze the effects of Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) for women involved in high-risk pregnancies. The findings, which offer new data for increasing pregnancy success for women of advanced maternal age, were published recently in the prestigious Fertility & Sterility medical journal.

Werlin was also recently selected to appear in the Marquis Who’s Who in America 2004. His biography has appeared in this special publication in past years, as well.

Werlin is a leader in reproductive technology, research, education, and patient services and the founder and director of Coastal Fertility Medical Center in Irvine and Aliso Viejo, California. He is a member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, Pacific Coast Reproductive Society, and the Society of Assisted Reproductive Technologies, an organization in which he held national office from 1991-2000. Werlin is currently leading GENESIS in a continuation study regarding the effects of PGD.
